One thing to remember is how the rainfall is measured, is an automatic gauge or manually read gauge, what is the collection area of the funnel, the shape of the funnel and for automatic gauges the accuracy of the gauge at high rainfall rates as well as the resolution of the gauge (e.g. 0.2 mm ideally or as bad as 1 mm). And the actual siting whether at ground level, elevated or somewhere in between and significant under catch can be experienced with elevated gauges which I have found myself, and surrounding obstacles like trees and building. But considering all that I do find that being on the edge of the southern extent of D'aguilar it provides some shielding to the west at my location (with lower rainfall totals) especially with severe storms.
