over the dry and traffic picks up again with the first sign of storms come Late October. We only have a small
group these days after the closure of the Weather Zone forum a few years back scatted us to different parts
of the web.

Looks like some low teen min temps for later in the week...

It been a bit of a windy old start to the dry...we thought we might sneak in a couple of days at the reef last week ..

Got one decent day and some Red fish and other reefies to restock the freezer but by morning it blew up to 20 knots with a 2m swell outside the reef...was a slow trip home from 75kms out..the wind died off inshore so we stopped at the mackeral grounds and caught a few doggies for dog food..no spotties or spanish there yet though.

But it looks like the intense back to back highs are breaking down a bit so we might actually start getting a few windows for fishing coming up...

Man I hate the cold..

Getting colder, digging out musty quilts and blankets and airing as best I can, maybe need new clothes, erm, from the opshops, that is.

Grass is slowing down, thankfully, less frequently on the ride-on, wish my veggie seeds would grow, almost all have succumbed to wilt with the moisture hanging around, even seedlings from Bunnings haven't been happy. And yet, come later this week I'll have to check on the watering system for the orchard with maybe dry days ahead.

This one seemed to be the most active, im sure there is plenty of activity on facebook but i refuse to use FB anymore. Cold snap coming up friday morning with BOM forecasting a low of 16C for port douglas as of this mornings forecast however may well go much lower than that. I havent got an accurate temp recorder set up at my place yet but am looking into it. Looking into the gear made by onset HOBO external temp logger, looks to be good quality stuff made in the US.

Would like to have accurate temperatures recorded for my place because unfortunately for us up here north of cairns the only "official" BOM temperature comes from low isles which is a tiny island 13km or so off coast and the readings there have little relevance to the temperatures we see around the area obviously due to being a tiny island surrounded by water. Cairns aero and cooktown are the nearest official stations on land both of which are a long way from us.

Hey GT, Yes it is like excel, however being google it is cloud based and free. I can update it on my phone or anywhere
if I remember my password, lol I take my readings most mornings with the light, so they do change as the seasons do
but try to remember to put it in the chart by 07:00 most days.

I have heard of higher averages from the other side of the mountain. Personally I don't think Thornton's would beat
Bellenden Ker but it would be well up there. We sometimes refer to our corner as Eeyore's corner (Winnie the Pooh reference)

I was referencing Thornton's mate, Cow bay Bob has good records and he mentions someone else over that side tucked
in close to the mountain that gets big totals.

Yes the temp sensor being on Low isles is a total wack job by the Bom, it bears no relevance to anywhere in the shire
as you would know up the valleys can have huge differences both with Max and Min. And Mossman protected by the hill is
different again to port out on a headland.

Davis make the best weather stations I think, most of the cheaper stuff only last a year or so and fails.

Well Iv'e sold my house and moved to a rental so no longer have a nylex. Will fix that soon enough though. Hope to build within the next 12 months then I will set up properly, with a Davis with any luck. Ive had a couple of cheaper stations in the past, an oregon one actually seemed to have the most accurate temp readings and lasted quite a few years.

Overcast and reasonably muggy for this time of year, DP at the AP just gone 20c, and apparently the slightest chance of a storm inland.

Drizzly drizzle from late yesterday arvo has continued overnight, even with nothing showing on the radar.


GT That would of been interesting to have another AWS in the area, but we should have temps as well
not just rainfall. When we live on the river I had lots of talks with BoM Hydrologists about river
levels and was pushing for another auto gauge around the ferry. But it never got traction and we moved to
higher ground.
Have you found Mareeba weather/Gorge creek orchards ? Marcello has all types of data loggers and systems,
even broadcasts wx info on UHF25 , there are a few spots where it can be picked up down here.
