Weather Situation A high in the Great Australian Bight is directing a dry, moderate to fresh and gusty southeast flow over the northwest Top End. For Tuesday 27 August: Severe Fire Danger is forecast for the following fire forecast area: Darwin and Adelaide River Bushfires NT and NT Fire and Rescue Service advise you to: Action your Bushfire Survival Plan now. Monitor the fire and weather situation through your local radio station, www.securent.nt.gov.au, and www.bom.gov.au. Call 000 (Triple Zero) in an emergency. For information on preparing for bushfires go to www.secur source https://twitter.com/EWNAlerts

These warnings are more for extreme conditions promoting the spread of dangerous fires with a threat to life and property. It would in fact be quite abnormal to not see the dry season skies filled with smoke for much of the season prior to the first rains. |

Hi 'orebound'.,I had no idea about that . I am quite ignorant re the top end being so far away. Are the fires deliberatley lit. No thunderstorms in the dry season to start them? The prescribed burns in SE QLD ,NSW and VIC have been horrific. The smoke is so irritating. I remember your username from the WA cyclone season. Do you still follow the WA cyclone season and live there.,This forum will greatly benefit from your joining.

I have an interest in the monsoon trough and seasonal trends ,so that is more my interest. and checking the forecast

Some reasonable cloud in the interior and North . A trough. 23rd sept Dew points at 11.40am ,some locations in this area Darwin airport 18.4 Bradshaw 16.1 Alice springs 8.4 Rabbit flat 6.4 Yuendumo,6mm in the past 24hrs Wallungurrun2.2 since 9am Alice spirings 892since 9am

Dew points slowly on the rise up here in Darwin as we nudge closer to the brutality of another wet season build-up! Even a few little offshore showers poking around this morning.   |

Great to see activity on the forum regarding the build up  A few onshore showers l notice up at Cooktown this afternoon. Dew point up there a tropical 19.7

I was playing with stormcast and noticed what appears to be some storm activity over night in the top end. I had to get out google maps for some names. Storm in Timor sea. Nearest towm Wadeye. No storms in the forecast. It does however look quite an isolated patch. But small sign of the build up. a NE of the gulf out in the coral looking ferocious on this picture
