Dunno. We just had a 2 hour outage. From Arriga to Chillagoe. Radar was yellow & red over Mareeba & Arriga when it happened. No rain here, but great clouds in the distance with lightning show still continuing. Give it til after Easter. Edited by user Sunday, 2 April 2023 7:57:42 PM(UTC)

1mm here overnight. Lots of lightning out to the west again last night. Cyclone Ita was a fairly severe one that occurred in April. The way this year has gone it probably won't happen though.

The pressure charts are funny. All those highs were back, but lows came back and it's messy again. Who knows what will happen. But it does look pretty quiet.

A short heavy shower last night, 1.5mm in total. We've had 6mm in the last 14 days. That's a dry end to a very uneventful wet season here. The showers of April haven't even bothered to turn up yet. The yards looking good though.

YTD: 1641.5mm Yesterday morning a very early shower have us an unexpected 2mm. Lovely weather of course. The town is full of extra people. Amount of 4WDs with trailers boats & dogs, this whole region is probably packed out. Internet speeds shocking. 0.65Mbps download & 3.15Mbps upload. @28. Was at Snapper Rocks (Coolangatta) a couple of weeks ago. Internet speeds both Telstra and Optus were abominable during the day, but after sunset when all the surfers went home it would get to 50mbpsâĶ

Internet speeds are interesting these days aren't they. I remember my first computer in the early 90's came with a 2.4kb/sec modem. It took forever to download even the simplest weather image. I think I even had to poll the BOM fax machine for sat images at the time.

That NBN rollout sure was $50 billion well spent wasnt it...lol
Its the same for us...and I saw recently that after much complaining Telstra have even sent their reps to Mission Beach for a town meeting to try and explain why everyone's service is so lousy around here...havent heard of any solutions proposed though only excuses..
Wow what a crazy April we are having with forecasts through-out the week pushing up to 35c..!..This little black duck is finding working outside somewhat difficult ATM...
Do you guys think that once the highs start pushing north we will get into that familiar autumn-winter pattern of SE stream showers and winds or do you think we are set for a drier dry season..?
I am going to have to start putting out sprinklers on garden beds and lawn tonight...I see the grass is starting to burn off a bit already..

7mm yesterday evening from a passing storm. 8.15pm to about 9.45pm. My newly planted seedlings are happy this morning.
The way I see it Scott, the NBN was changed to MTM so there's always be "upgrade" jobs for the boys. I figure if they could lay copper all over the country 60-80 years ago, they should've been capable of laying fibre to all those places we took phones for granted.
As for 4G last night. 0.11 Mbps.
The town is full, 4G can't cope. Videos would drop out 5 minutes at a time. Cairns radar takes forever to open. But I get those speeds when there's no-one in town. Sorry for grumbling.
But, it's another gorgeous day in paradise.
I'm hoping it's like last year & we get a couple of unseasonal big falls.

and yes very unpleasant to be out working in it.

Soon to be named Cyclone ilsa is being forecast by BOM to hit the coast as as much as a Cat 4.. I wont be packing my stuff away just yet over here either....sea water temps are as high as they have been all summer with local reef stations actually peaking at over 30c yesterday which is basically unheard of for this late in the season...very, very hot and soupy water.. Bunyip I'm guessing you got your bore pump sorted...and yeah what absouletly perfect weather for the Easter Tourists..calm and sunny weather for all the Reef Boats and easy peasy for the stewardess's with probably very little vomit to clean up off the decks..thankfully its a bit of an anomaly or else we would have half the country moving up here to live..... Pic of the missus taking a dip in our little creek...we are in and out 3-4-5 times day right now after every sweaty work session... it helps to cool the body temp down... Thanks for reminding me re water temps Scott. Here was me assuming with no bleaching headlines it was all fine. 30 degrees is a tad above the 25 for cyclone formation.ðĪŠ

Very dry Easter break here as well. 2.5mm for the 4 days. The high sea temp at the moment is interesting. GFS is forecasting a low/cyclone on a similar path to Yasi next week. A bit to far out to believe that though.

That's a very nice spot to have Scott, I'd be in and out all day too.
Yes got the bore going again, hopefully a few years before I need to do anything else with it.
SST are way up for this time of year.
Interesting run on GFS with that system SM comes in and then moves back north to cross again.
All we can do is wait and see.

Glad it's over there, up to cat 3 is fine but the big ones are no fun. Still hot and sticky here on the coast. Took 30' out of the top of a lychee tree this morning and was wet from head to toe just cutting it down, still got to clean up yet. Forecast is for some rain next week, will be welcome :) Cheers |
