G'day everyone from just south of Cairns. Wonderful weather at this time of year with 17 at night and 28 in the day. All people from the chilly south are hopefully thawing out now that spring is on its way. We had a cold morning here the other day, it got to 12 degrees!

Hi 'dundee', Nice to have a cairns poster on board. Some really nice convection in the northern coral sea atm. There has been a decent stream of moisture filtering down to the southern latitudes this week. I see this may be the case for NTH QLD as well. Dew points this morning in Cairns 15.9 deg c.. Can't see any precip' on the BOM in the far nth except 8.4mm at Mackay yesterday cheers. Look forward to your posts and observations

Hi. Cold at Cairns this morning BOM say This morning was the coldest September morning on record for #Palmerville (6.1C), #Cairns Airport (10.6C) & #Proserpine (3.2C)! Several other locations had a chilly morning too Hope l got that info right peoples Nice to see a new forum to replace the old. Lets just say a twitty bird told me

G'day JungalGal,
Yep. She was a cold one today, bit I didn't see how low. I had to wear socks when I took the dog out for a walk this morning and she wasn't too impressed about going out either. Not the QLD way having to wear socks!
Absolutely stunning day though and got to 28 at my place.

Cairns aero got down to 9.7 deg c this morning at 6.00am. I think the record broken again.? Yesterday morning minimum record was 10.6deg c More minimums of 9 and 10eg c friday and saturday.? 4 mornings under the old record?  http://www.bom.gov.au/pr...801/IDQ60801.94287.shtml

Hey guys,
I know RD, not sure about junglegal and NotCrocDundee though? Anyways I am just South of Cairns as well :)
Cairns Racecourse was somewhere in the vicinity of 7.8c to 31c yesterday. Gotta be up there with one of the biggest temperature changes in a day for Cairns. Bloody cracking weather though, apart from the fires. |

I could not agree with you more RonFishes. I took the dog out this morning and had a day off from work and played around in the yard all day. Absolutely stunning weather.
I wouldn't want to be up in Atherton though.

Great image SatMan. I reckon that is Staaten River National Park where the 3 fires are coming out of. I have been there a couple of time for a fishing trip. Fabulous to see the tropical forum expanding  ., Thanks croc' for being the first.I finally got around to checking out if the minimum temperature record for cairns aero was broken first week of spring.
The answer is yes. 3-4 days fell below the record set in 1948 of 11.1 deg c
Here are my notes from my blog
Cairns Aero. Tropical NE Australia had a new record for daily minimum temperature for September.
September 4th 5th and 6th 2019 .3 days in a row broke the previous minimum record of 11.1 deg c which was Sept’ 1948.

I am also noting that this has not been reported in the weather media???

and if you remember in August there was some min temps as low as 50yrs ago in August.

Yes it was reported on the ABC here, generally don't listen to commercial garbage so not sure about that. There are however, a few obervations missing from both the AP and the racecourse for the last few days, which is highly disconcerting IMO. |

The minimums were very low again last night . Another below the 1948 11.1 deg c min for Cairns aero Last night down to another 9.8 deg c at the cairns aero and if you look at the obs' below there are quite a few minimums there worth checking out for records or extreme percentiles. Certainly some more cold minimum temperatures forecast for tomorrow at Cairns Wednesday 11 September Mostly sunny. Winds east to southeasterly 25 to 40 km/h. Overnight temperatures falling to between 7 and 15 with daytime temperatures reaching 21 to 28. Signs of a tropical low in the nth coral sea. and the OZ mainland looking so devoid of moisture
