Wow i4hanish. Stop stealing our storms.   I was excited because I was going to report a couple of decent CC’s and now some thunder. But NE NSW is getting the best or worst of it. A another rumble and that is about it right now. |

It is trying its hardest here. Nice gusty winds and a few rain drops, bit not much reaching the ground. Here is a shot of the Glass house mountains. Just virga over them at the moment.

2nd line of storms is coming through the Tweed now. The thunder is much louder and the rain still light.
A 65km/hr gust at Coolongatta this hour.

That seems to be about it for up here and it is all calm again.
0.2mm all up from a very brief but heavy shower and 13kts wind.

I know we weren't expecting much and I know it was touch and go if we would get anything (as Ken said).
A touch more rain would have been welcome though.

Well it turned out a real treat for us. Picked my wife up and decided to head to Aspley. On Beams Road just at the railway crossing we were held there as the boom gates lowered. There was a very heavy downpour making it difficult to see from there to Aspley. Although the gauges only registered 2 mm’s I believe where we were it would have been a little more. We were smack in the middle of the core.
The night crawlers were amazing, the CG’s and CC’s were absolutely brilliant, then the sky light up near Carseldine, it threw every piece of lightning you could imagine all at once ending with a single CG that flew across the sky horizontally then shot down to the ground. It was first time I have ever seen that happen. I would say due to the dust and static in the atmosphere it caused an amazing piece of lightning. It was like a javelin thrown and then sharply landing. I wish I had dash cam, which is on the list, or a go pro to capture it. Amazing.

That's excellent Colin. I am glad you had a good show where you are.
I was driving north from Strathpine so everything was behind me.
There were a couple of wonderful purple strikes above, which lit up the car and the road a head for a few seconds. Great start to the spring storms season.

A pretty good stormy afternoon. Ended up with 2 mm mostly from a mild high-based storm between 5:30 and 6 pm that followed some brief light showers between 4 and 5 pm. Maximum rain rate of 27 mm/hr at 5:57 pm. A high based cell just missed me at 3pm making me think if I would get some rain. And it was great to see some of the wet stuff! Then reasonably active lightning followed towards the east for around 30 minutes after the storms passed. A warm day and the temperature fluctuated with the passing clouds. The dew point after falling in the morning rose in the afternoon and is currently slowly rising at 16 C. Wind was light and a little gusty with the storm. Wind direction varied in the morning, SE to E in afternoon, S to SE with the storm and variable following storm (currently SW). Graphs:   Edited by user Tuesday, 17 September 2019 10:06:19 PM(UTC)

Great stuff Colin. A storm chasing report. You did well.,Thanks for the time lapse. That was quite a treat.
We had 5mm from the storm band here. Imwondwe of it was enough to put a green tinge on the dry brown grass on the foreshores in the coming daya
s.
Woken up to beautiful clear blue skies. Top of 25 expected here today
I know there is a long wave trough on the cards. I must check that out later.

Only 0.5mm at my place yesterday. No official rain recorded in the main gauge here at Warwick. Looks like Warwick might go the entire month of September with no measurable rain whatsoever. Driest on record. A friend about 5 min south of Warwick along the New England Highway had an impressive 5 minute downpour.

I hope you get to see a storm and some rain before the months out. 2 chances l can see in the next 7days. Long wave trough sunday and a tropical dip in isobars near mid coast and sunshine coast appearing on ACC G tonight. Hoping for you
