Erm, Dormant here, dunno why, would only post what everyone else would, the mess that is BOM, too hot, too humid, and when are my seedlings coming up.
Creaky too, instead of waterblasting yet the black mouldy pavers again this season I decided to flip them, so down on my knees prying, cleaning and seating the cleaner side of 800 this week with another 500 to go. Now if we hadn't been so poor I would have bought firsts all those years ago instead of seconds which Boral hadn't got enough sacks of cement in the mix so blasting erodes them down to the exciting experience of barefooted walking on beds of nails.

Locals aren't getting much fish lately, one guy visiting said all he made was tarpon lately which is sposed to be dreadful, I piped up, we'll have a go, so he brought one by the next week. Not huge, partner gutted and I scraped out the flesh as the scales daunted me. Panfried patties in butter partner said it tasted like chicken, so... cheap protein. Certainly wasn't stinky or horrible, and I wasn't trying for fillets so didn't cut that way, just straight down.

Hi Dormant. Good to hear from you.

Not much to comment on, especially here. It's a major event to get 10 drops of rain, like yesterday afternoon.

I've given up hope & started back watering the plants again. Had the yard mowed last week, likely won't need to be done again til January.

The winds have started up, early stages of The Dust.

All this talk of rain forced me to go check the gauge as I haven't checked it yet this month. A lousy 16.5mm.
Dodgy records for 2022: 1520mm
2023: 2710mm 2024: 951.6mm
Jan 24: 449.6mm
Feb 24: 350mm

Howdy Dormant..nice to hear from you..

Speaking of that black mould..I thought I heard a distressed chicken coming from the creek area of our property so went to investigate thinking our new pup may have done a number on one...turns out the missus slipped are up on one of my concrete paths in the nursery area and was laying there with the back of her head split open and quite out of sorts...

She had concussion and I took her into the hospital and up for scans later that week but she ended up being dizzy and a bit crook for a month or so..

I should have known better as I slipped in the same spot some weeks earlier but didnt land as heavily as her..area has now had some bleach scrubbed into it but that mould does need to be scrubbed off or pressure cleaned...thats a good idea just to flip the pavers though ..

and yup you know its a crappy fishing season when Tarpon tastes good...BigGrin

These forecasts are just stupid though...supposed to be raining all week here but yesterday was so nice we spent the whole day on the river and got sunburnt as hell..no rain or cloud at all..the ocean was pretty nasty looking ...the wind is certainly not nice..

Now the forecasts are saying monsoon trough like rain for next week...is that just another guess..?...seabreeze has Tuesday at 35 knots and 6 metre swell...

Have to laugh at that one.

And thank goodness we don't have to worry about mould or mildew here.

Jeezz Scott thaqt doesn't sound good, I'm glad not any worse. Hope she is feeling better now.

Caught a few tarpon but never eaten one Dormant, more patients than me, I don't like picking bones out.

Don't know about these forecasts.. Will be interesting if some of them come off.

Cook Shire on Facebook. How is this possible with nothing showing on radar...

"𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐋𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐋𝐒 - 𝟏𝟔 𝐀𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐋 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟐💧

As at 7.00 am, Thursday 16 April 2022, Archer River is over the bridge and rising. Laura, Little Annan and McLeod Rivers, Bushy, Isabella and Myall Creeks are currently below alert level."

Had to be quick to see it 28. They had good rain overnight up that way from the east.
Caught a lot out, plenty of Weipa folks thought they would have easter out and the rain was over.

Want a few hours this morning without rain, as it's kill day.

Cheers

Cheers Bunyip..she is back to her normal self now..I didnt realize how long the effects of a bad concussion could last for..

Are you killing a steer..?..that must be nice..we dont eat muchbeef anymore..seems cant find any decent steak for under $30 a kg anymore...I only like rib fillet anyway all other supermrket steak is only good for curries or stews IMO, although I'm sure some juicy homegrown stuff would be delicious..

28 its still saying its going to be a very wet week down my way this week..getting a bit sick of the wetness and now its cooling right off.....cold and wet is my least favourite weather.

hey does anyone know how many months of the year have never seen a cyclone in QLD..?

Yeah Scott, I help the neighbor and we ended up killing 2 steers, both young but not going to do anything better so now they hang to age for 10 days.
Hard to eat supermarket beef after eating home killed. Don't think we would eat much beef if had to buy it.

Forecast is a bit erratic with big falls all week then it slowly changes to less but still big falls out at the end.

Funny how the rivers all came down on the PDR and trapped quite a few easter trippers thinking they could go anywhere.

I think I read somewhere it's only 3 months without a recorded cyclone But I could well be wrong.

Cheers

Well something must be going to happen I've had 3 warnings from the EWN now and council are pushing their disaster pages
and handing out sandbags..

Been out and moved cattle, and opened gates so they can move to the hills.

Scott we ended up with 3 in the cold room after my mate rang me Tuesday arvo, he was moving a few head from 1 block
to another and 1 very nice heffer broke her a leg doing silly things in the crate, so I quickly headed over and we
shot her and dressed her out to quarters so we could bring her home to hang with the others..
Going to be a big day in the butcher shop breaking them all down.

Cheers

Looks like the entire coast is getting good rain, I’ve had 52mm since this morning and looks like more headed this way. Think we could see some massive numbers on the cassowary coast tommorow
thanks 1 user thanked Gone tropo for this useful post.

We have had around a couple of inches today so far but it seems the big rain is converging on the coast down our way tonight and slowly moving north over the next couple of days...

Given the way the last couple of events have unfolded further south I guess anything could happen..

Geez Bunyip..3 beasts at once..you will be busy..

When my dad died a couple of years ago I grabbed his meat saw from the shed but havent used it yet...we mainly just butchered sheep and pigs...my uncle would occasionally kill a steer which was hung and quartered and then sent to the butcher to be cutup further...

I had visions of going out the back of Charters Towers and shooting a deer or goats and dressing them up but I dont even know where to start with locating a property to hunt on...we used to have quite a few places to trap and hunt on in NSW when I lived down there many years ago...

I'll just have to stick to fish instead..

Well had 155mm this morning but nothing since, now 11:00

Scott I started my working life as a Jackaroo in outback SA, we used to butcher 6 sheep a month.
Only been helping with cattle the last 15 years or so and not very good at it , lol
I would love to find a place to shoot a few deer a couple of times a year, have also thought
of heading out to sheep country and buying a few live to kill and bring home. Really need to pack
up the camping gear and head out and ask ..

Bring on the rest of this event.

Cheers

Best we could do out here today was the faintest misting of the last couple hours.
26mm yesterday was pretty good though.

EDIT: So -- 15 minutes later it starts to rain. Not heavy, but a couple mm already. Happy plants.

EDIT 2: Very happy plants, still sprinkling, and 15mm in the gauge - about what the BOM saw the possibility for. BigGrin

19mm on Friday late afternoon
Nice...
Nothing today, although felt like it could've.
Nice weather generally though.
