Good morning Bunyip. Thanks for starting the new thread, and letting us know. I usually miss it for days... I'm still enjoying this rain after living so long without much at all. Things are getting slightly soggy though. Edited by user Monday, 5 May 2025 4:01:21 PM(UTC)

63mm more the past few days and about 170mm over the 5 days.. Check out those closely spaced isobars stacked up on the east coast in the next week... From that it looks like plenty more of the same filthy windy, showery weather ahead...

Only 3mm in the gauge just now.
Yeah Scott, looks like at least another week of the same. 05:50 and just back from my walk with the dog and it's still and if you didn't know you would say it is going to be a magic day.
Cheers

10.5mm here in the last 2 days. It doesn't look like a good boating weekend ahead, a windy forecast for the whole East Coast.

Originally Posted by: ronfishes Probably a good time to redo the floor in the boat, just need a bit of spare time Yeah Ron get onto it and be ready for the good weather that must come eventually :) I did mine a couple of weeks back and am still waiting for a nice day to take it out. Local council have released plans to upgrade the area where the ferry lands with new lanes and ticket boxes ect ect but it looks like we will lose a lot of boat trailer parking, idiots don't take into account that when the weather plays nice there can be up to 75 cars & trailers there as well as all the tourist traffic going on boat rides ect.. Went through this with the then council about 10 years back & was taking photos and counting cars and sending to the then mayor everyday till they woke up and changed plans, haven't got the patience to deal with them all over again. 11mm here 2 mornings in a row.. another 69mm over the past 4 days up till tonight... Managed to get a pistol match at Kurrimine in this morning in the light showery rain and gusty wind...lots of staples needed to keep the targets on the corflutes but everyone soldiered on.. Bunyip it sounds like our Clump point ramp ..if you get there late on a good weather weekend then you just about have to call a taxi to get from the ramp to where you need to park the trailer half a mile away..I guess because they are often empty during foul weather the muppets dont get how important for the community the need for parks is when the weather comes good.. 12.5mm here this morning, that's 27.5 for the last 4 days. It shows April was quite dry now that May has already beaten that total. Deeral landing in good weather is like that as well, if you arrive late it's a long walk back to the ramp from where you parked the trailer. Apr: 80.5mm May: 85.5mm YTD: 2230.5mm Edit: The walk to pick up the trailer seems even longer after a long overnight reef trip. Edited by user Sunday, 11 May 2025 7:56:56 PM(UTC)

10 wet days straight now with a further 54mm overnight...enough already please...the ground has become super soggy.. SM.. that deeral ramp probably gets a lot of cairns folk use it as well which probably annoys the Deeral locals that live there specifically because of proximity to the ramp..we know some people that have a shack down at Russell heads and when the weather is good they take their family and boats and spend some time based down there...I'm a bit envious of their setup but they have worked damn hard to acheive it.......

37.5mm here in the last 5 days. A bit of drizzle around again today. The May total is sitting on about average at the moment.
Deeral is a great spot to launch the boat Scott. Great scenery on the run down the river to the Heads, then go past the Frankland Islands on the way out to the reef. Some beautiful reefs out that way, good fishing at times.

I like to go out of Mourilyan when I have to time, nice ramp, friendlier people and plenty of fish if the freezer needs a restock. Looks like the weather is on the improve, maybe good enough for the bigger boats.. |

Pretty dubious aboout that article weary..
Written by ABC's meteorologist is the first warning sign but the heading "BOM rain forecasts close to perfect" made me laugh a little...
Due to the localised nature of much of the rain events, geography, big rainfall range over small areas etc its no surprise anything but a general forecast can be given..ie possible thunderstorms, showers tending to rain,etc..
So in effect perfect forecasting means "possible thunderstorms" is theoretically correct if one place gets even a few spits from a storm but the rest of the region gets nothing.....likewise 1mm from a passing shower but the rest of the region is dry makes a "possible shower' forecast also correct...
Yet the article claims that when we think BOM have it wrong thats just based on "perception"or "selective memory"...
Anyway none the less interesting but to me the whole article sounds like its written by someone trying to justify their job..
So weather wise it was down to about 16c here last night and my little staffy was snuggled up against me through the night...
Glorius weather days though(except for the SouEasters and I've been catching up on the mowing by doing a bit each day as the grass is very high and I'm trying to nurse the old Greenfield along for as long as possible...
Best get done before the weekend though as showery weather if forecast to return with a wetter month next month possible..

24 mm in the past 2 week with most over the past few days in light dribs and drabs..
At least the showers hav brought back the warmer nightime temps after a couple of nights of chilly mid-teen minimums..
May even get a chance later in the week to get out around the islands if the Sou easters drop off a bit..

Just the 4.5mm here in the last 12 days. Lots of birds using the bird bath at the moment. Good points about the perfect BOM Scott. I think if they forecast 0-60mm for a certain location for a certain day it's not quite perfect yet. Since supercomputers their forecasts have got a lot better but on keeping their jobs the old saying is still amusing, "Weather forecasters have the best profession in the world, you can be wrong all the time and still keep your job." Hahaha Scott, you sure are a prime example of what the article is trying to explain lol. |
