Slept in this morning so I didn’t get to the gauge until 07:00 and it was overflowing , so more than 150mm overnight. Still bucketing down.

A little less excitment would be appreciated. Chickens are off the lay after being shoved in the garage last week during 'cyclone' prep. Could do without it ruining another weekend

Wow! What a wet night that was. Emptied out 210mm in a lull around 4AM and then another 87.5 at 9, 297.5mm in total. It now makes the monthly total look a lot better, we more than doubled it overnight. Very unexpected going on yesterday's forecast.
The GFS has the low crossing on Thursday between Cairns and Cooktown, 991hpa.

Good morning all :)
Another nice wet day in the Daintree yesterday has left me with 175mm in the gauge this morning.
Talk seems to be ramping up on the likely hood of a whirly later in the week, that could really make a mess of things. Nothing we can do either way, so get organised and sit back and watch what mother nature has install for us all.
Cheers

It was showery here overnight, 24mm in the gauge. That's 402mm in the last 4 days.
GFS has moved the low crossing north of Cooktown this morning for Friday.

Not really, With another rise in the river yesterday arvo, they stopped the passenger service and that did not restart till 12:15 today, with only 2 bus service's into town. MSQ spent 2 days going over it, but nothing has been done since Friday arvo. Can't work on weekends or in the rain. The pile that anchors the drive cable has pulled on and angle and broken the concrete with mesh visible. I have just heard the there is a small self propelled barge/ferry making it's way up the coast that will be here and possibly in action tomorrow, but at this stage it is not going to be for public use, just to get supplies over and recovery teams over to work on this side. This has not been published and is only rumour but I believe this fella would know. With a whirly on the forecast with would be good to hit the shops tomorrow or Wednesday for a bit of dog food and milk but other than that I'm not to worried. Oh and a couple of blocks of Supafry for my deep fry pot, it's getting low and needs a freshen up :) :) Cheers |

Just another 22mm up here this morning :) Keeping things nice and soggy.
Late yesterday they put out a notice that it will be at least another 2 weeks before any ferry service. :( They have not told us what AMSA or MSQ have said about the condition of the ferry after their 2 day inspection. I'm taking that as a bad sign, because if it was a straight pass I think they would be publishing it.
Anyway another day on the island :)
Cheers

2 more weeks..Holy cow...!....Doesnt sound like there is too much urgency to get her running again Bunyip..[ [ We had about 85mm in just over an hour the other day..the missus was down the beach for a few hours and didnt beleive me when I rang her and said she was flooded out..Must have been a very localised blob although i saw some pics from the Bulgun area about 10 kms away that showed the bridge under water....You certainly have been copping some good totals this month Bunyip and could likely could cop another drenching later in the week and weekend if this cyclone impacts up near bathurt head as BOM currently have on their track map as a Cat3.......apart from that little flash flood we have just been getting dribs and drabs down here and it looks set to continue that way for us....though its nice to be able to watch a coral sea cyclone form without having to run around like a headless chook tidying up and preparing... Nothing much to comment on here. Perpetually overcast and comfortable temperatures. Occasional brief shower, the heavy stuff keeps missing us.
Looks like everyone is in agreement on the track for TC Narelle.

G'day all, not too much chat on here regarding cylcone Narelle. might have surprised a few armchair weather forecasters I reckon. Been watching it very closely myself, Cat 4 impact now expected. |

Oh I've been watching Ron.. We are a pretty small forum and I think most people are on faceache with all the experts. :) haha It seems every time there is an event another wx page turns up on my feed, with more pictures and lines & fancy colours. :)
Just 6mm in my gauge this morning. Looks like today is it in the way of trying to get anything done before more rain.
No going to worry about trying to get to town, I just can't be bothered with it all. I'm sure Scout and I will make do with what we have here.
Cheers

Just 3mm here in the last 2 days. The forecast is good for more rain in the next 3 or 4. The Coen area still seems to be in the firing line from Narelle at the moment.
A bit of trivia, if the cyclone crosses on Friday it will be 20 years to the day since Cyclone Larry.

And if it crosses tomorrow it will be 7 years to the day since cyclone Trevor crossed in the same place, just not as strong as forecast. Wait and see what happens..

She is actually starting to look quite ominous on the satellite view already with quite a bit of intensification still expected before landfall... https://www.bom.gov.au/a...p;satSubmit=Refresh+ViewStill time for a sister cyclone to spawn up behind here while conditions are ripe and monsoonal before the season is out....but lets hope not..I want to get my tomatoes in the ground..!

Narelle is starting to look powerful now Scott. BOM now forecasting Cat5 just before landfall. At that strength it can definitely stay away.
The White Rock rainfall forecast for the next 3 days has also increased in the last few hours. Thurs: 10-120 Fri: 35-150 Sat: 25-130. Maybe more flooding on the way.

Yep she is starting to crank up a bit now SM....WIll be interesting to see how wccurate the BOM and JTWC end up being in track and intensity.. and yeah weary i already see claims of the most powerful and destructive cyclone in living memory being bandied about...it may turn out to be a real ball-tearer but its a bit early for that call just yet i think..and yes all the ignorant and stupid comments that just confirm how far humanity has sunk in the intelligence stakes...... One interesting possibility about it is that it is predicted to reach cyclone intensity also in the Gulf and once again off WA...How many cyclones have there been that have made landfall in 3 seperate states before..?
