Seems to be colder earlier in the season than the last few years. Average minimum temp is 1.5 degrees cooler than the mean. Fire is going 24/7 at the moment & already have gone through 2 trailer loads of firewood.
Another cold start today with -2.6 & a good frost. Cloud rolled in at sunrise & the temp has not risen much, only 2.6 at 9am.

In for a long winter this year I think.

If QLD opened the borders it might let a bit of warmth come down this way!

I was thinking the same thing here and I am quite coastal.
I did read somewhere that the BOM are predicting a slightly wetter than average winter, due to warm sea temps.
Fingers crossed for that, because it is getting dry again here now. Hopefully that would result in slightly warmer too!

Seems to be a bit of discussion on this at the moment. Apparently the cyclones off Western Aus have introduced colder water & this may change that prediction, will have to wait & see how it pans out.

Another frosty morning with -2.3 degrees & the 5th day in a row with a overnight minimum of below -2 degrees.

Dry here as well - only 0.2 mm so far this month.

First dusting of snow overnight on Mt Kaputar(no pics, sorry). Temps have certainly been low, a top of 14 yesterday & 11 forecast for today. Sitting on 9 at 10:00 am with a westerly at 5 knots. Kaputar is due west!

Oooo... That is chilly. It is a bit warmer here near the coast, but the wind is horrible.

Has been a it cooler than usual up your way I hear.

Yeah that wind yesterday was chilly, temp got to 10.5 for about 20 mins yesterday arvo but with the wind chill felt like about 6. Not going to be much better today.
Could be worse, Guyra barely got above 4 degrees yesterday.

Wonder how @scott123 is enjoying his trip down this way?Scared

I don't envy Scott at all. I know what Armidale is like, that's bad enough.

I just invested about $400 worth of merino - I have just guaranteed us a warm winter up here... Lol. Still cool nights but not cold. Tee shirts & bare feet last night til late. But woke to a nice crisp morning.

Mornings have not been too bad this week. No frosts & the lowest minimum was -0.3 last Saturday. Was 7.7 overnight last night. Been cloudy all week with a south westerly blowing keeping the daytime temps down. Still only 9.8 at 11:30 am today. Daytime temps have been around 4 degrees cooler than the average.

Seems SE Qld has been seeing cold mornings with frost this week.

You might need those woolies if the cold keeps drifting North like it has been!

The run of mild overnight temps ended abruptly last night. It was down to 0 degrees at 10:00 pm with a minimum of -4.0 this morning & a severe frost. Nice day so far, not a cloud in the sky & no wind. Heading for a top of 18. Good to have the sun back after a week of overcast skies.

Back to T-shirt & thongs!LOL

Nice run of sub zero temps the last few days.

Saturday -4.0
Sunday -3.1
Monday -3.3
Tuesday -3.7
Wednesday -3.8

Nice sunny days with no wind has made it bearable(and a roaring fire helpsBigGrin).

On this day 37 years ago it snowed in my hometown of Barraba. Has not happened since & my father could not recall it happening in his lifetime.
I remember getting up for work & looking out the kitchen window thinking "Geez, thats a heavy frost!". Went outside to find about 4 inches of snow with light snow falling.

Widespread snow fell over much of the Slopes & Plains as far west as Moree.

My house is under the wingtip of the plane in the last photo(three trees in a row).

Always will remember that day.

Great photos, interesting to see.
Was that 1973? Sydney caught the end of a cyclone & Newport Beach had sand washed through the car park and all the way up to the north end of the shops. Friend in a yacht anchored at Byron Bay was washed onto the beach.

Crazy weather over the last 24 hours.
Very thick fog yesterday morning that did not lift until 10:00 am & then the cloud rolled in with a few showers with very small hail.

Max temp of 11.4 at 12:30 then the wind picked up from the Southwest. Thunder with rain and more small hail & the temp had dropped to 6.7 by 2:40 pm.

Overnight temp of 1.8 & heavy cover of cloud. Snow on the ground on Mt Kaputar 40 km to the west.

Wind from the SSW at around 10 knots at 10:00 am. Temp is sitting on 7.0 degrees but with the wind chill is more like 4.5.

Glad I ordered another load of firewood a couple of days ago!

Seen some nice pics from around there. Been some good falls around Armidale, Guyra, Ben Lomond & Glen Innes in the last few days. The snow at Kaputar didn`t last long though. I can`t get up to the summit from my side when it snows, only when it falls below 1100 meters as the road up to the top is impassable in wet weather.

People go nuts when there is a fall of snow somewhere. The pic below is at Barrington Tops last year.

OMG that is so weird. All those cars.
Strangely, the last time I went up there was on a motorcycle, mid 1980s, and it snowed. 😄

Actually, last time I went to Mossman Gorge, north of Cairns, it looked just like that.

Middle of nowhere, stuck in a traffic jam...

Rather chilly here this morning with -6.2 & a pretty decent frost. It was down to zero at 10:00 pm last night.
Have heard reports of Armidale, Guyra & Bendemeer down to -9 this morning.
