63mm in the gauge overnight here. We haven't broke the 100+ mark yet this year, many totals between 30 and 90. It looks like the SE surge they were talking about has moved away to the north this morning.

Lots of good childhood memories there Bunyip.

Feb: 150.5mm

Can feel the next lot building so had a look at the radar, looks like a wet arvo up here..

SM I've had 1 day with over the ton & really today should of been as well, but I measure the rain when I get back from
my morning walk / dog run, so this morning it was around 05:45 and there was another 20mm in the gauge by 08:00...
I'm not to fussed it's all there in the total at the end of each month.
It's alright for the BoM to change records, maybe I should adjust it :)

Cheers

Well that band didn't come on shore in the arvo, just a few shower but it came in after 20:30 and set in heavy in the early hours.
Ended up with 142mm in the gauge this morning so did a bit of blending haha and made it 2 days over the ton..
Good enough for our official BoM so good enough for this black duck.

That's the first meter for the year out of the way, time to feed the trees and gardens..

Did you get to the range yesterday Scott ?

Cheers

There was plenty of colour on the radar north of Cairns late last night. It did look good for nice totals in your area Bunyip. 8.5mm in the gauge here, that makes the yearly total about 530 down to this date last year. A bit of catching up to do.

Feb: 159mm
YTD: 684mm

Edit: A comparison to 2025, by 8 Feb 25 we had had 4 totals between 100 and 200mm and 1 over 200mm. Maybe a drier year on the way.

Thanks Bunyip. Hi everyone. No, not on the road yet. Living in the van though, comfortable. Nice to be living a simpler life.

At Mareeba. Just catching the edges of storms. Everything's wet in the mornings, but not much rain has fallen. Not worth putting out my $10 gauge. Most seems to be going over Biboohra.

I'm still getting things done on the van, hope to leave by end of month.

Off topic comment. Note of warning. I had a bad experience with Williams Auto Electric in Cairns, who I'd used several times years ago. Talked me out of what I asked for. Did their suggested work, which didn't work with my device. They knew it may not, did the work anyway without asking if I still wanted it. Paid before I realised what had happened.

Hi guys..Got my computer fixed finally...hopefully the storms are gone for a while now...around 250mm for the week just past..

SM, I see Bom suggesting "the possibility" of El nino from June....if it turns out to be that i guess we will be leaving the past couple of wet years behind.

28 yeah auto electricians are a nightmare to deal with..I ended up swapping the Redarc brake controller from my old vehicle to the new one rather then get anyone to do it because they charged me a fortune to do it before...I just took photos of all connections before pulling it apart and had no problems at all installing from battery to cabin and back to the tow bar..Did a tidier job then they did previously as well..

Yep Bunyip I used the new 9mm first time in our monthly IPSC club match on saturday...did better then I expected as shooting fast with it with quite fast ammo, that I bought 3K rounds of, certainly is more challenging then rapid fire with a .22...A few things I can see I need to work on but I do about an hour an evening of dryfire practice...I have a whole 6x6 shed setup with swinging target, moving/ sliding targets and numerous arrays and stages of paper and steel targets in different sizes and scales...I'm an absolute champion dryfiring in the shed...haha...I never miss but when I get to the range and the beeper goes off I get the White line fever and all hell breaks loose with real ammo...lol..oh and stupidly I had 2 cups of coffee before which gives me the jitters as well..But I honestly havent had this much fun shooting since I was a kid..

Went back on sunday just to test some handloads so I can reduce the recoil a bit to be more competative as most of the guys are running lighter loads for club shoots...

Anyway hows things in the Bunyip household mate..?..Your missus on the mend I hope..?

Hi folks, Just 14mm here this morning :)

28, that is a shame, it seems harder and harder to find someone will to do their work to a professional standard these days
it's all just slap it together and hope the customer pays before they find out how [censored]the job is.
Hope you can rectify any shoddy workmanship without to much extra expense..
Mareeba must be green with the showers.

Good stuff Scott, Do you run a laser dry fire setup? It sounds like lots of fun without the cost haha.
what press are you running?
I gave up coffee & coke about ten years ago, lost some weight back then but have packed a bit back on lately sitting around
here baking good food and enjoying it all on my own, :)
Mrs B got over the Staph and went south the day after they pulled the IV line so she could be at the birth, not sure on her
return just yet but in the next few days I would assume..

That El nino forecast is probably going to play out as some of the south has had a few good years and it's time they were reminded
that this country has more drought years than good. I can hear the media beating it up already haha ,, It's climate change, it's
the end of farming ect ect ..
It also feels a bit different this wet, just doesn't feel like that last couple of years, hard to explain but a few people have
said the same to me..

Anyway off to town this morning, fridge is a bit bare & mailbox needs checking..

have a great day
Cheers

I agree the past few weeks the wet does seem to have a different "feel" then the previous 2...I havent actually minded them as Cairns got it bad the jasper year and Townsville last year and us in middle with no real major disasters thankfully but still plenty of rain...hopefully the El nino will translate to a pretty dry, dry season...I loved it last year ..proper wet season followed by a proper dry season just about perfect...

Bunyip glad to hear the missus is enjoying herself..nothing like a new bub to keep grandma happy huh.!

Mate I have an old 5/8th super simplex turret press for the .243, 30/30 and Hornet and while I was looking around at what press to get for the handgun a fella at the range gave me his old RCBS single stage press..So Im happy with that at this stage while I get used to the exact-ness required to make the consistent loads required for use in a precision semi auto race gun...I see every week blokes at the range getting jams and failures to extract and messing up their whole stage at a shoot...so while i'm trying to get the handload right I'm using a jeweller scale to individually weigh every load till i get it right and become comfortable enough to build consistent loads..also measure length every bullet and plunk test each round..Once I'm happy with loads and my process I'll start using the powder measure and speed it up a bit..

One old fella I shoot against has 4 Lee progressive presses set up so he never has to swap the dies to load another calibre but every week he has issues...maybe something to be said for taking your time with each stage of the process rather then just trying to punch out 200 rounds an hour while you are watching the cricket or footy at the same time..lol..

What are you using Bunyip...?..

and yeah I looked at that mantis laser system but have found that this bloke has basically refined teaching practical handgun shooting to a fine art...as long as I use video and am honest with self assessment then i feel I should develop the skills to becoime competetive before too long...I just wish I still had my 18 year old body and brain though...its a hard slog for a ageing fella.. .....

I agree the weather has a different feel to it. I reckon it’s mainly due to us getting southerlys and as such we are not getting monsoonal rain but showers (heavy) from the south. The bit I don’t get is that normally southerlys are cool and these definitely aren’t.

Just 2mm here this morning, high cloud that I feel will burn off soon.

Yeah Weary, the southerly's are still very warm, Been looking forward to a bit of relief form these real hot
sap sucking days.

Scott, I have a 5/8 simplex turret and a few dies but don't use that one much, I went out and brought a Foster Co Ax and foster dies
in all my calibres, also have a RCBS single stage (just the small one) that I've setup with universal de-capping die.
Also have a pacific progressive shotgun press, but have never loaded shot shells with it other than to see how it worked.
I was heading up to Cooktown to shoot clays every month a few years back, but a neighbour and I brought a trap and just
shoot a few for fun when we can be bothered. Well we did till Jasper and the trap went under in the flood and he has had
trouble finding a new motor to suit.
Yes a lot to be said for taking your time, especially with reloading.
You have a hornet, that's great, it's such a great little cartridge, I've got 2 , but don't shoot them enough. Miss shooting foxes.
A mate down in Bris has access to Deer in the fringes & uses a hornet around 19:30 - 20:30 when everyone is watching TV, has good results
on very small holdings and nobody is any the wiser.

So good to see that the premier has had a sensible approach to our gun laws. Now he just has to hold on with the tidal wave of anti
gun BS that is going to come our way. If only that idiot in NSW had of been so sensible and not gone off on a knee jerk reaction that
will do nothing to stop it happening again if they want to do it they will still find a way. If container loads of cigarettes can get in
every day, how many guns are coming in ??

I'll have to watch a few of those clips, and I know what you mean about the old carcass not moving like it did, I've been packing
on a bit of weight over the last few months, not really doing much and just cooking & eating lots of good food & breads, time to get
off my butt and do a bit more lol

Looks like mowing day and a bit of spraying :)

Cheers

Found 5mm in the gauge just now from a few light showers through the night, no storms actually made it here
just the very edges tantalizingly close. Was a nice walk this morning with lightning all around the back of
the ranges..

Wouldn't mind an other couple of nice rain days :)

Cheers
