69mm in the gauge here this morning. Around 50 of that fell in about 30 minutes at 8pm, there was water everywhere for a while. A nice blob of red sat over us.
The forecast for this arvo is a possible severe storm with heavy rainfall which may lead to flash flooding. Could be interesting.
It's good to see you have a new official gauge Scott. We could do with a couple more in Cairns also.

14mm here overnight. We're slowly crawling our way towards the 15 year average of 464mm. A way to go yet though. The GFS saying at the moment no Tropical lows around for the next couple of weeks. A bit unusual for this time of year.

We caught the edge of those storms yesterday, 16mm in the gauge here. There was one close strike in the arvo.

Good morning folks :)
No rain up here, but wow that radar looks good this morning if your south of kans.. Here is hoping it moves north over the next few days.
Last couple of days have been fairly uncomfortable, even used the A/C for a few hours each night to get some sleep without laying in a pool of sweat.
Scott, I've always wanted a Brno fox in .22 hornet, shot one when I was much younger for a bit and made good money on foxes. I've got a CBC break action single shot & a CZ 527 with the set trigger, works the same as the 2 triggers, you just push it forward to set it , or just shoot it without. With NSW doing this unjustified attack on law abiding firearm owners, I'd like to have the coin to bring a couple of nice Brno's to QLD, would like a .222 just as nostalgia and a hornet fox.
Cheers

Getting some rain out of that storm only now, started about 5:30pm. Watched the big bank of black moving from the west, but it did a Chillagoe and split each side. Bit of lightning and thunder, but in the distance.

The forecast for White Rock yesterday was 3-30mm, we got right at the bottom end of the scale with 3. Good radar all around but it never moved over here. It looks a bit similar today.

Good morning :) 62mm last night made for very nice sleeping weather.
Yeah SM with storms it's all hit and miss, if your under one good but it's easy to miss out. Waiting for some proper wet season monsoon action with wide spread rain so we all get a bit .
See what the next MJO passing brings with it

Very dry past week here with a few storms around but like Bunyip says they are pretty random and we missed out ..So only about half the average rainfall for this month so far with not much forecast for the week ahead... Bloody forecasts I keep seeing on Weatherzone always have heavy rainy forecast for a week/10 days out but when that period arrives then its back to 1-5 or 5-10 again..yet the forecasters are predicting a low on the coast in early march....probably get it right one day if you keep predicting heavy rain in the wet season... Bunyip I'd like to get a Brno Model 2 in .22 for the .22 shoots at the club...a fella I see at the range picked one up at a local dealer for $300 odd dollars i think because it has some scuff marks on the bolt knob...he chucked on a cheap scope he had lying around and has spent a few weekends seeing what ammo it likes and now shoots around half inch groups at 50 metres..like you say nostalgic for me also having shot one quite a bit as a kid and because they really are fine shooting rifles..we used to use my uncles sako .222 for shooting foxes for skins many moons ago..thats a very nice rifle too.. and yeah the cockies and fruit bats demolish most of my fruit ..I have started cutting back some fruit trees in the hope of keeping them small enough to either net or at least be able to reach the fruit..probably not the best time of the year for itbut I wanted to get at it while there is some growing season left....maybe I need to chuck some buckets over the cut ends so the water doesnt get in and rot out the trees.. and SM yeah i was looking forward to comparing the rainfall in El Arish to ours in the hills a few Km's south...The old lady at the PO used to keep a rain gauge and paper chart but she has been dead for years now....I asked a question about when we will be able to see a link to the new community funded weather station and was bombarded about sponsership, merchandise and advertising on the page...geez i justed wanted to be able to see the rainfall figues...I get a bit sick of money grubbing "influencers" monetising everything they can... I understand its run by the school P@C for "classroom resources" and the "live weather interface"but geez I hope they are not expecting people to pay a subscription just to view it....They also want to use it as a educational tool for the small primary school there...Personally i think the little kiddies would think it was more fun to go out and read a rain gauge each day but maybe I'm just old fashioned lol... https://www.facebook.com...le.php?id=61560662452718and hows the van fitout going 28..?...

Warming up quickly this morning up here..
Scott, I picked up a Brno Mod 2 made in '68 last year, been wanting a '68 for a long time and was wasting time up in Mareeba one day so went out to the gun shop, looked around for about 20mins and then asked if I could have a quick look in the vault didn't want to spend any money haha,, then as I was walking out I spotted a Brno, "Don't suppose that's a '68 ? " Old mate gets it down and oh look at that, haha .. They still fetch good coin , well they were before all the Bondi bulldust. I paid $750 with a scope, but I changed that over with 1 I had here and it seems to shoot ok with the standard CCI stuff that I have a bit of. I've got a few .22's they are just good economical fun.
Cheers

Just 3mm here this morning :( Bit of light drizzle after dark..
Yeah Scott those 7 & 10 day WZ forecast charts are always the same at this time of year. From 4 days out it it always 40-80mm then as they move in it drops back more and more. Only really good for the first 3 days at best ..
Waiting on new front wheels and tyres for my zero turn, been sitting in Kans since Thursday...
Cheers

Finally managed to be under a storm yesterday afternoon, 51mm overnight with most of that in about 45 minutes. Nothing quite like being up a ladder in the pouring rain removing leaves from gutter “choke” points

Feb: 294.5mm YTD: 819.5mm It was a pretty decent one at Mareeba. Lightning, thunder, and dumping rain. I was parked in the middle of town in the van. Gutters filled up and water out to the rear of the van. Lasted a while. Place still drenched this morning.

Careful doing guttering in the rain Weary, some years back I was doing that and lightning through me off the ladder. But yes I've done it again just not in close storms, I like to do a bit of driveway drain cleating in the good heavy rain.
34mm here this morning :)
Have a great day
Cheers

Yeah be careful up ladders generally..the amount of people over 50 years old that I know of personally that have fell from ladders and sustained injuries ranging from broken bones and bodies to traumatic brain injuries takes 2 hands to count....you always seem to fall very awkwardly as well...I have reduced the need for the previous regular "up the ladder in the rain clearing blocked gutters and downpipe dance" by finally removing all trees in proximity to the shack...mainly did it to reduce the cyclone damage risk but that was a bonus as well.. For tree work i use aluminum forestry ladders which have pointed ends which are driven into the ground and stop any movement of the ladder itself which is way safer then normal ladders which just stand on hard surfaces and can twist or move if your weight isnt perfectly centred..Been doing some cutting back of massively overgrown fruit trees lately with some requiring using the polesaw and chainsaw up a ladder which is pretty stupid really now that I'm not a spring chicken any more... I see some forecasts returning us to monsoonal conditions early next week which will be a change after a really strange Feb..and the usual pages starting to hype lows/cyclones impacting the coast.. and yeah Bunyip any further handguns or rifles will likely be .22..very cheap and fun..Just now trying to convince the missus of the merits of a .22 copy of the famous 686 revolver in 6 inch barrel and 10 shot....The S@W 617 would look very nice in my safe.. Hey 28 have you had or seen any issues in mareeba with street crime.?.I have heard various stories but didnt know if it was just media beat up or not.. Yeah Scott I did a similar tree removal a few years ago ( recognising that I am no longer a spring chicken) but I am surrounded by tall trees that I have no control over and the wind does it thing. It takes a heavy rain fall to wash the light scattering of leaves off the roof and into the gutters and as it happens all at once, blocked gutters.

Scott. Not recently, but I'm a little out of town in a nice caravan park.
Early 2024 not long before I sold my house I had a storage shed in Mareeba, broken into twice. Took nothing the first time, took a couple suitcases the second time. Can't remember what they took, but they didn't take stuff they could've sold. About to move into a house closer in town, could be dodgy there. Chillagoe was so safe, it's going to be strange in the big smoke.
