Overcast all morning. Weird weather. Not pleasant. Oppressive, in a way it wasn't in the Wet Season.
Radar shows white bits moving this way, don't see it arriving here, in spite of the overcast.

Looks like just a few showers and windy on the forecast. Not good boating weather for the start of May by the look of this map.

Back to sh!tty weather all round SM...
3mm last night but overcast, cool and showery this morning..
I saw that yesterday Cairns coastguard had 8hrs travel in 20 knots Sou easters and used 571 litres of fuel to rescue a boat stranded just off Mourylian harbour because the Innisfail/mourylian harbour VMR was unmanned due to being a holiday and both Tully heads Coastguard and Cardwell VMR are Tidally challengend and can only get in and out on the top of the tides...the Government is formulating plans to change things in the future but it will take years..its a bit of a worry that 20 million was recently spent on a new marine facility at Mission beach and yet one of the tide affected VMR's wasnt relocated here ...Hard to beleive its the year 2024 really..!

9mm here overnight. A bit showery early last night.
The coastguard does a great job. It is a shame they don't get the facilities they need to do their job properly. I bet those people on that boat were glad to see them in those conditions.

6.5mm overnight. WZ forecasting nearly all 1-5mm days for Cairns until 7 May. Should keep things nice and damp.

So here we are, end of April and right on que we have SE trades and [censored]showers.
Wish I had a sail boat and somewhere to go :)
9mm each morning the last 2 and about half way they for tomorrow :)
Might have to head west for a night in the swag and a roll in the red dirt.

151mm for the previous 7 days..
So a bit soggy and miserable down this way as well..not enough to head out west into the colder at nighttime country though..
Finally finished scrubbing and cleaning my 49 absolutely filthy and mouldy solar panels plus 4 on the 2 solar hot water systems as production had slowed significantly and for the first time used more then we produced last month ..Also took out a bamboo that was creating some shade as the sun dips lower.....so hopefully we will be back in the black even despite the cloudy weather next month..
Yes SM ..our weather looks pretty well dominated by these filthy Highs in the south now...

79mm here in the last week. We need 22.5mm to make 400 for April. That would be 5 months in a row over 400. I can't remember that happening here before.
That big high in the bight looks like it's parked itself there for a while.

So here we are at the end of the WET  24mm this morning April 679mm YTD 3691 Wet Season, 1st Nov - 30th April 5946mm and so with a few overflows I'm happy to call it a 6m season   Todays job is to try and get to a fence that has been fixed once already but the flood the other day has left logs and stuff all over it again, Had a quad bogged a couple of times over the weekend and it's hard going getting to some of this country, it's just soup. Yeah Scott I think it's going to be very early quick trips to get a fish, and get back before it blows up. Will have to keep a close eye on the charts and be ready to go for any drop. While it is cool out to the west from here on in at night, they make for beautiful days and a dust bath is needed every so often. Cheers |

6000mm for your wet season Bunyip, amazing. We didn't quite get to 400 for April with 13mm overnight. Still well above the average of about 220mm. Looks like 20-30kts SE beginning on Thursday.
APR: 390.5mm
YTD: 2369mm
Since NOV1: 3526.5mm

SM , yeah not going to forget the wet of 23/24 in a hurry thats for sure.
These events happen to community's all over the country every year, where records are broken and landscapes changed
by mother nature but still people think it was a one off or will never happen again.
If we look at past patterns of change, nothing is new, Big events formed this landscape that we are now trying to
change to suit our idea of what it should look like.
The coral sea has been quiet for some years, I've read local history where they tell of wet years that just never
end.
28 if you had 6m you'd have rainforest too, how is 1020mm compare to avg first 4 months?
Showers continued most of the morning, but as I type this the sun is just breaking through to say good afternoon :)
So got the pot belly burning and a camp oven on top with beef cheeks in a hearty gravy and will put dumplings on
top and finish in the over a bit later.

Living in Sydney, for years I'd hear about wet Wet Seasons in this region. Always wanted to live here. Eventually I was able to, albeit in a drier part. A few months ago, talking to a woman who said she used to keep a second pair of shoes for her kids to wear to school, because they'd be wet every day. My Dad's family lived at Aloomba in the late 1800s early 1900s. In 1921 my grandfather packed everyone up and moved the family to Sydney - they'd been wiped out by cyclones 3 times, and had enough of rebuilding and restarting. Originally Posted by: FNQ Bunyip

Just 6mm here for May so far.
The Mt Garnet races are on this weekend. Looks like the weather should be normal for that event, cool and breezy.
