I posted this in the world weather section, however it seems fitting to post it here too.

Sadly, whilst the world condemns Brazil for fires in the Amazon... Indonesia still do their usual clearance of the rain forest.
This image from Himarawi was taken on 14th Sep at midday and shows the island of Borneo on the left and Sulawesi on the right, with multiple fires visible on Borneo. The only time it seems to hit the news is when Singapore air quality drops.

Thanks satman',and sunspots',.,Great to read the posts here.

We certainly have a long way to go regarding controlling global pollution.

Of course the World economic forum , ( the author of the article above post) is a politically driven organisatoon even though they deny say they are independent and unbiassed . They are a a very powerful western world political lobby group.
They promote a global world government and damn protectionism .

AGW is aone of their useful tools for them to bring the population under global leadership.

It just well maybe that a global govt is needed to control AGW and in fact control anything on the world platform.
A global govt has both adv and dis advantages.

None the less , they have some good ideas and some good initiatives against global pollution.

It is worthwhile keeping an eye on their forum because their political clout is strong and we will see our Australian govt' , listening to them. We no doubt have representatives there

These will be the two organizing principles of the World Economic Forum’s upcoming Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters, which will convene under the theme of “Globalization 4.0: Shaping a New Architecture in the Age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution”. Ready or not, a new world is upon us.

I am a Liberal voter myself. But we all know sooner or later Labor will get back in. So l like to keep abreast of the Labor party policies.

Some backsliding here on AGW targets. Party think tank must reckon the public won't wear heavy CO2 reduction??

'Anthony Albanese has flagged a complete overhaul of the party’s climate change policies, including the likely scrapping of Bill Shorten’s 45 per cent emissions-reduction target by 2030.

On Sunday, the Labor leader confirmed the new focus on a longer-range target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050'
.

A balancing act..

'Labor’s climate change spokesman Mark Butler said any new emissions-reduction target would still be higher than Australia’s Paris Agreement targets of reducing emissions by 26 to 28 per cent.

Ok so we are ok. Now what about all the other countries?

'“People can be assured it would be a medium-term target utterly consistent with the best scientific advice about how we meet those commitments in the Paris Agreement and keep global warming well below 2 degrees [Celsius] and pursue efforts around 1.5 [degrees Celsius].'

Climate strike was on again today. Looks like this might be a re occuring event.

Twitter is trending #FridaysForFuture this afternoon and from what l can gather friday is the set day? for climate strike.

John Laws was funny on the radio this morning. He was bagging the protests.
But he said the students attend the rallies because they get a day off school.
Then he said. If it were on the weekend no one would go because no one is prepared to forgo their leisurely weekend.
I couldn't help thinking if there was some truth in what he said Laugh

I think it is great some children /adolescents are becoming climate warriors.Leading the way . Caretakers of the global climate. The intention is good.
I wonder though if they understand a world without coal and oil in a world that is not yet set up for the transition.
There is power in numbers. So expecting something to come out of this?

The news reckons Saudi wants to pay back Iran for attacking their oil. Trumps sending troops over. Scotty just been over to US.
Wondering if conflict is going to affect our petrol prices. Not many people in Australia that may have experience war and rations.
It will be a real eye opener for the young. Cutting emissions but restricted transport and high prices.
Lets hope this conflict doesn't take off.

News.com.au twitter has compiled a very powerful promo video for climate change action.
The main focus being 300,000 students on climate strike march recently
Students not wanting to have children unless something is done to keep the global temperature in check.
Here is the twitter tag

Just saw smoke come out of my nostrils from this comment from the Guardian.

Australia's media...… has never been more concentrated, at a time when clear, factual reporting is so desperately needed.

Guardian Australia will hold the new Coalition government to account and continue to report on the escalating climate emergency.

We are editorially independent, free from commercial and political bias – this means we can promise to keep delivering quality journalism without favour or interference.

I can see the contradiction. Free from political bias but will hold the coalition to account.
I hate this type of journalism.

Climate change news has been quite full on this week.

A recent trend is banning deniers and apparently banning countries from the UN talks who won't tow the line

Here l read countries demand funding to stop emitting.
"A statement issued by China on Wednesday said: “Climate finance is one of the major aspects of effective tackling of climate change. As the largest developing country, China is also entitled to funds support.

“China urges the developed countries to honour the commitment of $US100bn allocation each year from 2020 on to support the developing world in addressing climate change.”"

https://www.theaustralia...a0cbe4ee6ff97775338a5986

There is a graph in this link which shows major emitters.

China the top at 9832 megatons Co2
Australia at the bottom 413 mega tons

China emits 24times greater than OZ emissions. And they deny us a speaker. We have recently said no to a new coal mine. ??

"Australia has been barred from speaking at a UN climate summit in New York next week, where China and India will call for trillions of dollars more in climate funding from the developed world.

Other big economies, including the US and Japan, have also been silenced because they have not agreed to increase their ambitions to tackle climate change.

Despite being one of the world’s top investors in renewable energy last year, Australia is criticised for relying heavily on coal and refusing to contribute further money to a green climate fund."

Whilst reading the news this morning, I stumbled across this article...

Indonesia haze causes sky to turn blood red

Skies over an Indonesian province turned red over the weekend, thanks to the widespread forest fires which have plagued huge parts of the country.

One resident in Jambi province, who captured pictures of the sky, said the haze had "hurt her eyes and throat".

Every year, fires in Indonesia create a smoky haze that can end up blanketing the entire South East Asian region.

A meteorology expert told the BBC the unusual sky was caused by a phenomenon known as Rayleigh scattering....

Feeling quite peeved today. The AGW movement is creating quite a divide in the community.

Firstly l learn that Blackheath weather is blocking all deniers on his site. I'm a fence sitter but they make you feel bad just the same. I have unfollowed and that saddens me.

Then AGW is on TV, radio with Greta. Twitter trending .

I didn't know Greta was in to the extinction bandwagon.

The WHO condemned this last week and now here we have fanaticism on the front world stage.

WMO Secretary-General Rejects Climate ‘Doomsters and Extremists’

Date: 06/09/19
Andrew Montford and Mikko Paunio
https://www.thegwpf.com/...-rails/?utm_source=Media

The Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) says that the alarmist narrative on climate change has gone off the rails and criticised the news media for provoking unjustified anxiety.
..

And he suggests that radical environmentalists are now a major problem:

and now the sort of radical alarmist that they condemn is on world news

So did the WHO attend the UN climate talks? Bit of a circus from my perspective

Quite a sad reading report from the UN over night.

World's oceans at a tipping point, indicates UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report

On Wednesday, the IPCC released its Special Report on Oceans and Cryosphere (or frozen areas) in a Changing Climate, finding that since the 1970s, these vast blue expanses have absorbed 90 per cent of excess heat in the climate.

Recently, the world's oceans have also had to work overtime to suck up excess pollution caused by humans and it's taking its toll.

Oceans are warming faster than before, causing ice sheets, permafrost and glaciers to rapidly melt.

As they do, they risk releasing toxins and harmful gasses, which would further heat the planet.

And as the ice melts, the excess water is pushing up sea levels and diluting important surface layers, forcing change within the ecosystems that reside there.

Experts warn that unless significant and coordinated changes are made to limit global warming, the world's oceans and frozen areas will undergo unprecedented changes that will be devastating to human life.

The report is the most definitive scientific account yet of current observations and predictions about what oceans and cryosphere will look like if global warming is capped to under 2 degrees Celsius — and what we will face is if isn't.

"While sea level has risen globally by around 15 centimetres during the 20th century, it is currently rising more than twice as fast — 3.6 mm per year — and accelerating," the IPCC report reads.

The report also concluded sea levels would continue to rise for centuries, and could surge by up to 60cm by the year 2100, even if greenhouse gas emissions were sharply reduced and global warming was limited to well below 2C.

If emissions continue to rise rapidly, those levels could rise by up to 110cm by the end of this century.

Driving the expansion of our oceans is the rapid thawing of ice in Greenland and the Arctic.

It is not known whether the melting of ice sheets is reversible, although that is likely to be a major area of focus for researchers in the coming years.

"Our oceans have changed," said Nathan Bindoff, a report co-author, and one of the world's leading climate scientists.

Thanks for that update St KildaClare. There has been updates on the media everyday now. When l was shopping this afternoon . I saw brief glimpse of a report on Barrier reef and Tasmania . Twitter which l follow daily is inundated with Greta aupporters.

I have noticed a few more countries are coming on board with some quite short term major commitments. I must drum up some more specific information on that.

Yes. The dxtiction rebellion movement has been very active this week getting media attention. Some very irritate people trying to get to work whilst cyclists block intersections in busy locations not going down well with some.

On a lighter note.

Some lateral thinking on tree planting, or is that vertical thinking?

From the good old BBC

https://www.bbc.com/news...nce-environment-49997755

Climate change: Big lifestyle changes are the only answer

The UK government must tell the public small, easy changes will not be enough to tackle climate change, warn experts.

Researchers from Imperial College London say we must eat less meat and dairy, swap cars for bikes, take fewer flights, and ditch gas boilers at home.

The report, seen by BBC Panorama, has been prepared for the Committee on Climate Change, which advises ministers how to cut the UK's carbon footprint.

It says an upheaval in our lifestyles is the only way to meet targets.

The government has passed a law obliging the country to cut carbon emissions to net zero by 2050.

A report from the UK on the antics of extinction rebellion

"TODAY, thousands of mums and dads will climb into their Volvos and drive to London to pick up their Extinction Rebellion kids, who’ve spent the past two weeks at a fancy dress street party.

I was in the centre of the capital last night and God, it was annoying.
We should just leave Extinction Rebellion activists glued to railings"
