You did well this morning Dormant. only 57mm here when I checked around 07:30
Yes lots of little eddies around off the coast this morning as systems move around.
Looks like a nice solid storm , slow moving on Cairns ATM..

Hey Bunyip,-I see an alert by the name of 'China Camp TM' a bit further north than you,- is there actually anything there,- as in houses etc, or is it just a name given to a locality that only exists as a Lat & Long ?? In my (limited) travels up that way, I can't remember seeing any signage with that name on it.

Back in 1970s people used to talk about it, but I have no idea about it now. Sorry, that's not helpful. But I'm intrigued myself now.

Oh for goodness sakes, I'm soaked rigging up in the dark pouring rain, a temporary tarp over the doggie door that she won't go out of if it's pouring and instead pees on partners bed, twice today!. So she's only 18 months old but was already trained however the heavy rain and thunder is making her sookie. I think partner could happily live without a dog but I can't - my eyes and ears when he's away.

I think you've got our rain Dormant. We've only had light sprinkles.
Your poor doggie. Friends dog used to disappear under the bed in bad weather, and the cats just take off.

66mm here from a beautiful arvo/night of rain, with a bit of banging and a few nice flashes.
Hickory: China Camp is an Aboriginal community, located close to the Roaring Meg Falls, just to the East of the CREB track.
The CREB (Cairns Regional Electricity Board ) put the track in around 1966 (Don't Quote Me ) to get power to Cooktown.
There is a small mob that stay there, but are seasonal and move between Bloomfield and China Camp. (Again don't quote me Ever changing.)
Might hit Cairns today, Need a new welder.

Thanks Bunyip,- yeah, I know where you mean now. Back in the late 1970's, and early 80's we used to ride up the CREB track to Cooktown,- on trail bikes in the dry season. I was a lot younger then, and it was fun,- very tiring, but fun. I haven't done that ride since 1985. The Lion's Den pub, (the Helenvale Hilton), was a welcome oasis, before the easy part of the ride into Cooktown.

Haha Hickory I think we were all a bit younger back then. Yes the CREB was a lot of fun and some good nights at the Den Mid to late '80's for me I don't really like the track these days as far to many riders and 4x4'ers driving very dangerously for my liking. 85mm this morning here, from perfect wet season rainy afternoon, bit of crash and bang but nothing serious just beautiful stormy arvos and a bit of night rain. Another 120mm here for the past 24hrs, which take my monthly total to bang on 1000mm for the MTD, and around 1300mm for the past 3 weeks.
At the rate it is going i will pass my highest ever Jan total.

Even the poor pups wont go outside... We got the missus new left hand fishing reels spooled the other day and she already caught and released a big metery.. Just a shame it was hooked on the front verandah and of the canine rather then piscatorial variety..  Her big pooch put up a good fight though and thought it was a great game.. Yep... thats how bored we are at the moment.. Bring back El nino...

Rain every day this month. Loving this weather.
Still on water restrictions - until the new tank on the hill is completed & connected by pipeline to a new bore ~4km out.

Nice Totals Dean  Totally boggy up here too Scott, but only half of what you fellas have had. Shaping up to be a good wet. Time for a rain water tank 28, get it filled before it stops lol Well I foolishly mentioned mowing this morning, and half an hour later the first shower came through and they have kept coming all day and getting heavier as the afternoon wore on. Scout is wanting a run  Good thing I have pea and ham soup on for dinner that should warm me back up after a soaking. Cheers |

Thanks so much for adding your rainfall spreadsheet, Bunyip. I've missed it as I've missed recording my falls regularly this and last year. Now I don't have to.
Had enough though lately, lots of chores for outdoors which aren't getting done. And as Scott says, mighty boggy here.

yep first flood watch is out already nearly 2 days in advance... Initial Flood Watch for the North Tropical Coast between Cooktown and Ingham Issued at 2:26 pm EST on Friday 15 January 2021 Flood Watch Number: 1 Minor to moderate flooding possible from late Sunday. Heavy rainfall associated with a developing tropical low is forecast to develop between Cooktown and Cairns during Sunday. Anyone want to have a crack of pinning the tail on the LLCC tonight?
The rain bands look like they could give us a bit, but who knows?
The earlier and more of these warnings they put out the less actual impact we seem to get.
I'm ready, bring it on.
