Sorry to be the bearer of bad news guys.. But the weather is sunny and almost windless and all species of fish are jumping into the boat..reef, deeper water and mackie grounds all firing..lots of big trout around this year as well which could be a result of the Pro boats which used to send about 70% of the total catch overseas ,losing that market since Covid.. Just having a rest day from fishing today but might get out again tomorrow before the wind picks up on the weekend.. Even got about 25 Greys and doggies into the freezer yesterday to feed the hounds...its there favourite time of year too...  Are you staying in the area Ron..?

Brrrr, bottomed out at 12 in Cairns, glad I got new drapes (quilts) around the verandah, the last were rotten and pulled apart by mice making nests. Partner still sleeps out there, dunno how he does it, though doggie burrows under with him so not so bad I spose.
Yeah, Scott, lots of people out fishing lately, the carpark at the ferry fills up with trailers and the seas are almost glassy.
Time to prune bauhinias before they drop massive lots of large leaves around the house.
We've even managed to avoid running the gennie for the batteries last few days with clear skies.

About 15° this morning. Nice sunrise.
Yesterday was cold. Dunno what temps. Went to the church market at 8am, had to come come & add more clothes. Lol.

Monthly totals are in and the month ended with a bang with 43mm last 24 hours at my place for a monthly total of 94.5mm. I've started recorded temperature at my place as well towards the end of the month. Looks like bunyip had some big rain as well. How about the rest of you down around cairns? |

Been watching the rain on the radar last few days. Shopping is a real geographical excursion. So many different climates. Last Friday, cool & crisp at Chillagoe, fog from Lappa to Dimbulah, rain at Atherton, sunny & cool & hot at Mareeba.

Got some good heavy showers with this lot of rain,- something you don't expect in late June.
The mowermen came and cut the grass on Tues,- now the rain will make it grow back even quicker. It's nice to see everything so green though, I suppose.
It'll soon be show day, then wall to wall blue sky for maybe 4 months, unless some oddball weather event occurs.

161mm up here this morning is a bit of a shock, I listened to it a few times during the night but did
not expect that.. Creeks were all well up this morning, with a nice roar..
Even that 3mm will be good for you 28, nice little shower.

Scott I was watching bulgun quite incredible how much rain they got there for June/July. Unfortunately the bureau doesn’t show historical data for bulgun as it may well receive more rain annually then Tully.
Bunyip that 161mm is also incredible for up here this time of the year. I can’t remember a June/July event like this for a long time. Everything is back to mush my yard is a mess, cane farmers are cursing around here.
Tully is still in first place for the year for offical stations (not including bellen den ker) however cape trib data is always lagging behind they have only reported up to April and they were very very close to Tully to the end of April looking forward to cape trib data coming through to the end of June. Looks like ultra heavy weight babinda is not in contention this year so far..... |

I didnt see bunyips post before ..we must have both posted at the same time...Bunyip the rain intensity didnt really suggest the high total but just that it was so non stop...Was that your experience..?
Certainly a doozy of an event for this time of year and in all the usual places..
Gone Tropo, I'm certain the Bulgun and some of the valleys around here get more rain then Tully Town..
Over the hill from us Yasishak keeps rain records and I'm pretty sure they are more impressive then Tully's...
I'm sure you would find the same in some of the hills and valley's around Babinda/Bellenden Kerr and up behind Mossman and Daintree that regularly show higher totals then the more accessibly located official rain stations..

Scott absolutely shame the bureau doesn’t put in more stations all over the place I guess most people couldn’t care less and its only weather fanatics like us that want this Info.

Am waiting on Bunyips total that includes the 90 minute downpour that arrived around 4pm yesterday. Couldn't hear the tv over dinner. Gave up and ran the generator to have a hot bath besides needing the batteries boosted.

Yeah Scott I was a little surprised with the total, I knew it rained all night and a few times
it seemed fairly solid but was only expecting around the 100..
Yeah GT yard is a mess, especially after my neighbor came over last night and managed to slip into
a drain and chew up everything getting back out in 4x4 .. lol
Come on Yassi, time for an update mate...

Well, okay, partner emptied it and it was half an inch from the top, one of those cheap triangular ones where the last markings are 150, so we will never know. I'm not fussed, so pleased to now have laundry weather for drying outside.

G'day all,
Fairly consistent wind and showers haven't really been all that good for the school holidays, or work. keeps the grass green though.
Yes we are staying in the Gordonvale area, just waiting, waiting for our new block to be titled before we can finalize plans and start building. With the level of building and also groundworks etc around we might be renting for a fair while.
Could be nice little weather window end of this week, best get to the ramps early if it comes off on Friday. |
