A hot day today. The maximum temperature (33.8 C) was reached at midday and the temperature made small rises and falls during the morning as the temperature rose. In the afternoon the temperature was generally stable due to sea breeze and hovered just below the maximum temperature until falling properly from 3:30 pm. The dew point was stable before rising from later in the morning and have been near average and stable since mid afternoon. Near average relative humidity today but did rose and fall a few times. Oddly winds here have been light SE to ENE before E to NE sea breeze from midday to the late afternoon. SE to NE winds in the evening became N to NE and now is calm.

Obscene overnight temp of 22C and already up to 31C.I think this temp and usually high overnight temps are a consequence of the heat island effect.Toowoomba being so big now is a good example as we are regularly 6 to 8C above surrounding towns with AWS.

This photo above taken by Justin Noonan and shared to fb shows the huge dark plume of smoke towering over the landscape from the out-of-control Emergency Warning Level fire at Rappville southwest of Casino.

At time of writing this, 5 of the fires in SE QLD/NE NSW have now reached emergency warning status (including one approaching Laidley and one SSW of Gatton as well as three in NE NSW).
The particles in the plumes from the fires are also clearly visible on radar.

I've just seen some more recent photos he took of the Rappville fire and they have to be seen to be believed. Hopefully he'll share them publicly soon.

Humidity was again quite high here today, but swinging all over the place depending on where the wind came from. At 2:40pm it was sitting at 47% and then the wind changed to the SSW and it plumeted to 20% within 4 minutes and then back up again.

Max temp was 32.7 degrees.

Luckily no fires up in this area.

It's hard to look at this multimodel accumulating rainfall graph for Brisbane and not think that most people in Brisbane will probably get at least some rainfall later on Friday or on Saturday, even if it isn't drought breaking and some people may get less than others.

Not quite as hot as yesterday but that wind was wicked. Looking forward to cool temps and some moisture later in the week. WATL this morning looked great, ECWMF tonight even better for us but a bit optimistic.

After the very warm morning the temperature reached the maximum at 34.7 C just before midday. In the afternoon the temperature rose and fell several times while generally falling. Between 3pm and 4pm the temperature rose slowly before finally falling properly from 4pm. ESE to NNE winds mostly today, SW to SSE in the late afternoon and early evening mostly before the dry WNW to WSW wind change with light and gusty winds from 7:12 pm. The temperature rose very sharply with the change which rose from 25.8 C at 7:14pm to 29.9 C at 7:30pm and to 31 C at 8pm before starting to fall again.

Except for a brief fall in dew point at 9:30am the dew point have been stable and near average until the wind change. Relative humidity was also near average today (low of 37%). Following the wind change the dew point and relative humidity fell off a cliff. The dew point fell from 17.7 C at 7:12pm to 5.7 C at 7:15pm and since have continued to be very low while falling slowly. Relative humidity fell from 61% at 7:12pm to 27% at 7:15 pm, and continued to fall slowly and have been stable at 14% since 8pm.

I update my station figures every 10 days and so far this month my station is running at 0.6C below average. This is indicated by the -6.00 circled on the RHS of the page. Also circled are the two " heatwave " days where luckily we missed out being right next to Moreton Bay. The northerly flow over those 2 days is actually onshore here, so relatively cool.
